EZ Collector’s Version 3 Packs a Punch

EZ Soft Business Software’s EZ Collector targets small- to medium-sized collection agencies, debt buyers or small companies handling in-house collections. The company has been around the block a few times with versions running since the 1980s on DOS, until today’s Version 3 of the software running with full support of Microsoft Windows. EZ Soft reports it follows the build date of the software to control versions for their customers.

Version 3 builds on a great strength of the help function by adding the “Talking Help” feature – a new help system complete with index. The talking help walks new users through options and choices as you click on the different option buttons presented on the menu screens.


The system does make good use of lists mixed with debtor info to quickly move around, along with drop-down selections and menu tabs located on the access screens to access less used tools and information screens.

The Debtor Rolodex is jammed with all kinds of information to help the collector perform account functions. When the collector signs on, his or her work lists, work-in progress or queues can be fixed or filtered, and sorted by status, time zone, balance or time alarms. An dialer option available connects a headset to the computer and dials the debtors number or predictive dialing capabilities as an option. User Customization is also available, such as adding a field for a pet’s name to track. The Type of Notice and Action Sequence can be customized from an easy-to-use screen that allows flexible schedules for the sequence of events that need to occur and the time that should pass in between each sequence. Single letters were easy to learn and sequence letters were easy to modify with five templates available. With 10 layers of available data security and certain tasks available by the users’ sign-on ID and password, you get good control over who sees what menu choices and functions, even down to the fields users can modify. Reports are crowded on an access screen, but all areas of management are touched on. These are broken into groups covering Money Received, End Of Period, Placements and Miscellaneous reports. Collector productivity, trust accounting reports, profits, promises, remits and reconciliation reports are all available.

The package is affordable with the first user license at $3,500, and each additional user license at $1,000. The predictive dialer hardware option leases for $50/month with a deposit. One year of support is included for the first year and subsequent years are 10 percent of the licenses purchased. Support includes all updates and unlimited toll-free telephone assistance on a call back basis.

Summary

The moment you venture to the EZ Soft Web site, you are greeted with the familiar “Mission Impossible” theme. However, there’s nothing impossible about this program; EZ Soft has definitely improved EZ Collector with its Version 3. Collectors will enjoy many of the custom applications inherent in the system, especially the new Talking Help function. EZ Collector is worth a serious look your collection environment.
